 Scriptorium
Welcome to the Scriptorium; a place for writing.

At the moment this is a BETA TEST site, but you are welcome to use it. All files uploaded will be kept when we transfer to the final live site.

Authors can upload partial or whole works for rating or review. Soon you will also be able to sell them too (as DRM free e-books). We’re sorting out a micro payment system right now.

Some suggestions about how to use the Scriptorium might be:

• Give your own work away for free to bring it to the attention of more people, be they readers, agents or publishers.
• Offer free download of the first chapter, or a single poem or story, and then offer the remainder of the book or collection for sale.
• Upload AI sheets for books that you are self publishing yourself in print format.

We’re interested in new original fiction and poetry, and genre fiction. We think the format and medium are suitable for short works and we’d particularly love to see authors using this platform to publishing serial fiction. It might also be used for collaborative works.

Files can be uploaded in a number of formats (.doc .txt .pdf .zip). We have chosen those as they are familiar and accessible to anyone using a computer, and work on almost any device that we can think of. We suggest that you keep the formatting simple.

You set the price, keep all rights, and stay in complete control of your work. We are not publishing your work, you are. We are simply providing a platform for you to promote and sell your work. For more information see our full Terms and Conditions.

We’d like to highlight some important things which are worth considering before using this service. These are also mentioned in the T’s & C’s, but we feel that they’re important enough to bring up here as well.

• We ask that you only upload your own work (i.e. to which you are the copyright holder).
• Uploading work to this site is effectively putting it in the public domain. There isn’t enough room here to consider all the implications of this in terms of copyright and how it affects your first publishing rights your chances being offering a publishing deal or not. We’re just asking you to think about it.
• We believe that most authors have more to fear from obscurity than piracy. That means we don’t set any DRM restrictions. We believe that maximises your chances of avoiding obscurity. However, if you’re worried about piracy then this might not be the best place to publish your work.

We will market the works in the Scriptorium to our customers (readers) alongside the other titles available in our main bookshop in our usual marketing activites.

If you have any queries or problems about using the Scriptorium then please let us know by emailing: factotum@editotum.com
